Tokyo Mothers Group Helps Deliver Holiday Cheer to Local Children’s Home!
As part of Living Dreams’ annual Christmas Wish program, the Tokyo Mothers Group (TMG) spent nearly two months coordinating an online fundraiser to help purchase “wished for” gifts for a local children’s home. In addition, their efforts included purchasing all of the gifts–ranging from training bicycles, DVDs, play cookware sets to soccer jerseys, watches, and baseball gloves. TMG played an instrumental role in making the holiday season truly special for the home.Beyond the purchase and delivery of gifts, a few TMG members also participated in the Christmas Wish party held at the children’s home, helping to distribute the presents to each child and spending time with the kids and staff. The holiday season can be especially difficult for children’s homes so having the local community extend special care and attention to the children who are without their families at Christmas and New Year’s helps to brighten spirits. In addition, many children’s homes do not have discretionary income to spend on Christmas presents. Most kids receive one gift per year and this is typically on their birthday. This was the third year Living Dreams coordinated the Christmas Wish program at various children’s homes. With tremendous support of many sponsors and individual efforts, 6 area homes took part in program—translating to approximately 330 children who received a ‘wished for’ present this past Christmas! Planning typically begins in late September.Living Dreams would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire TMG member base along with TMG coordinators Stephanie Kawai and Helen Kaiho, and also to Hinnie Banno who sourced out all of the children’s presents!About Tokyo Mothers Group:TMG aims to provide a social and support network for not only new mothers and mothers new to Tokyo, but all mothers living in Tokyo through a wide variety of parenting resources including regular meetings, events, practical advice and useful information.
